With a ball screw of 5mm pitch and 1/10 microstepping this means a resolution of 1/400mm or around 0.0001" and a top speed of at least 10m/min or almost 400 IPM. Servo motors can spin a little faster (4000 to 6000 RPM) but have less torque for the same motor size.

This motor drives a worm gear that drives a larger gear at a ratio of 50 to 1, so it takes 320 X 50 = 16000 micro steps to rotate the large gear one rev. Each turn of the large gear moves the table 0.5 mm.

It is basically used to attain a higher speed and torque for the motor. Though i have not personally done this, it is possible with what they call a "current limiting or chopper drive circuit".
