2007年2月17日 · It depends on the damascus alloys a bit. Stainlees damascus takes a stronger acid. I assume you do not have stainless. A mix of nickel and high carbon is common or nickel alloy like 15n20 and 1095 is very common. The nickel alloys etch slower and remain brighter than the straight carbon alloys.

2016年5月18日 · I've only been using 1084/15N20 for my damascus. I've also got 1080, L6, W2 and just a wee little bit (ok, maybe a mountain of) 52100. I've used the 1084/15N20 because I learned with that combination and know that it will make a quality damascus. Do any of you have suggestions on combinations that I can experiment with from the list above?

2004年10月4日 · On a cheap/user knife, you could try 000 steel wool and oil, or Flitz, but both would reduce the contrast of the etch, on a damascus Fisk, I'd follow RWS' advice and have Jerry do it, but of course, Jerry is a busy guy, it may take a while. An alternative would be to send it to a high-end maker who isnt quite as busy.

The 1084 will always etch dark and the 15N20 will stay flashy. In order to get the 1084 even darker, almost black...cold blue works great. I really like Birchwood Casey's cold blue for this.

2004年4月16日 · I have re-etched an already finished blade before, what I did was apply a thin layer of nail polish over the guard and taped the handle real well, then using a glass (see-through) etching jar, suspended the knife point down until the face of the guard was barely submerged. It worked OK. Most makers I believe use the former method, though. P.S.

I have purchased a Damascus blank (the steel is 1095 + 15N20) and shaped it to my design. But I have not shaped/sharpened the cutting edge.
