Head space often has to be over GO .010" or more (usually a lot more) before you run into safety concerns like ruptured cases, blown primers, case head separations, etc. As was mentioned above, ammo is typically .002-.005" under GO to ensure it fits/functions.

2018年12月22日 · The way the tape trick works- you put a layer (or 2) of scotch tape on the "case head" end of the Go gauge (increasing the length). This semi-simulates a No-Go gauge. No-go gauges are a somewhat arbitrary dimension between a Go (min headspace length) and a Field gauge (max headspace length).

You can add scotch tape to the back of a round and see how many layers it takes to stop the bolt from chambering to see how much shoulder growth you’ll have.

That is basically the same as grip tape, plus it will be easier to remove in the future than Scotch tape. Good luck. I thought the stuff GolfSmith sells is the same thing as double sided masking tape.

Posted August 27, 2023. Good quality masking tape, like 3m, is time tested for build up. You can obviously use multiple layers of double sided grip tape as well. If you want a thicker tape to reduce the number of layers, you can also use gaffers tape. It's not cheap but it's easy to work with.

2018年5月29日 · The scotch tape I have in my office measures .0035" in thickness. With most HS gauges the difference between GO and NO GO is .004". That would be issue number #1. #2: The HS value was already too long in this scenario, but we don't know it. I use my fired case as the gauge and add the tape.

2017年2月13日 · As far as safety, an extra .005-.010" of headspace is not going to "blow up" a rifle. There is plenty of factory ammo that comes up that short of a go-gauge. Compare new brass to fired brass sometime, you may be surprised. FWIW, I fireform 6mm BRX brass in an AR-15, it has .100" excess headspace. F.
