Starting Monday, Ford will lay off another 550 workers because of the ongoing United Auto Workers strike. That includes another 12 employees at the Chicago Heights stamping plant.
It’s been a year since the United Auto Workers went on strike against the Big Three automakers in Michigan. UAW president Shawn Fain trumpeted the resulting contracts as a major win for workers.
This brings the layoff total to 418 at the Michigan facility, Ford said. The latest layoffs are a consequence of the UAW strike against the Detroit Three automakers, which is in its fifth week.
