I'd get a quick change rear end that allows me to swap gears so I can change my top speed. The batteries would be mounted behind the body with just the motor up front.

Race engines are going to have more compression (13+:1 on race vs 11:1 max on street) which will require a better fuel. think instead of running 87 - 93 octane needing 110 -125 octane. A $12 to 25 per gallon gas and getting 10 mpg on the street at the most.
